Charlotte Elbourne is thought to have been kidnapped by the vampire lord Meier Link. However, the relationship is mutual and consensual. He refuses to turn her into a vampire, even though it would ensure them remaining together forever. In this scene, Charlotte has just shuffled off her mortal coil and Meier is gently clutching her delicate hand. The sorrow is etched deeply upon his brow. The lovers wished for nothing more than peace; they want to retreat from our mortal world to the place of eternal darkness.
