Charlotte Elbourne is thought to have been kidnapped by the vampire lord Meier Link. However, the relationship is mutual and consensual. He refuses to turn her into a vampire, even though it would ensure them remaining together forever. In this scene, Charlotte has just shuffled off her mortal coil and Meier stoically resolves to go berserk on the vampire hunter who has hunted them down. He is gazing upon his beautiful Charlotte and realizing nothing remains for him in this place. The lovers wished for nothing more than peace; they want to retreat from our mortal world to the place of eternal darkness.
