Charlotte Elbourne is thought to have been kidnapped by the vampire lord Meier Link. However, the relationship is mutual and consensual. He refuses to turn her into a vampire, even though it would ensure them remaining together forever. In this scene, Meier is determined to rescue Charlotte from the Marcus Brothers. He willingly walks into direct sunlight and is shot multiple times with silver arrows. Charlotte breaks free and runs to embrace the weakened vampire, declaring she would not want to live without him. The lovers wish for nothing more than peace; they want to retreat from our mortal world to the place of eternal darkness. So their love may survive.
